Absurd Newspaper Calls Olympic Medalist ‘Fat’

It apparently doesn’t matter anymore whether you’ve accomplished a lot over the years. To the Herald Sun, your appearance is a more important topic of discussion than your accolades.

The newspaper recently published a poll alongside four-time Olympic swimmer Leisel Jones with the words, “The Olympic veteran’s figure is in stark contrast to that of 2008.” This of course got a rise out of people — so much so that the pub took down the poll. It’s always impolite to highlight someone’s weight, no exceptions, and rather disappointing that the publication would fixate on that rather than Jones’s many achievements.

As to the right of the people to commentate…technically, these folks are supposed to be the greatest physical representations of their countries and are subject to scrutiny.
