Lena Dunham Announces Girls Premiere Date

Girls, start assembling your paper chains, making an advent calendar with your birth control, or building a human sundial out of the street harassers you caught and tamed — Lena Dunham announced the premiere date for the new season of Girls! Hopefully you have a plentiful stash of construction paper and/or domestic men of sturdy builds since the series’ third season begins on Sunday, January 12, at 10pm.
While we’re sure that Andrew Rannells’ imminent return to television is enough to brighten your day (Andrew, you should know that after long bouts of meditation and multiple refills on our mood stabilizers, we have managed to forget all about That Ryan Murphy Terror Pageant, so don’t worry), we have more good news: Girls will debut with two back-to-back episodes. HBO expanded the coming-of-age dramedy upon renewal so Season 3 will consist of twelve episodes, as opposed to the previous ten.
Below is the in-production teaser trailer for Girls‘ Season 3. While the Instagram-style photos don’t reveal much upon first look, we poured over the footage for hours and used our observations to inform what we think are some pretty well-aimed extrapolations. One prediction: “Andrew does push ups on a square of grass in front of lounge chairs. So season 3 reveals that Girls is actually a Pete & Pete sequel and Andrew is the son of Artie, the strongest man in the world! Or this season is all about challenging deeply entrenched ideas and representations of masculinity. Or both. Or neither.” You can’t pull the wool over our eyes, Lena!
