Aspiring Librarians: Bragging You Have A ‘Great Rack’ Won’t Land You A Job
3:30 pm, March 5th | by Laura Donovan
Unless you’re at a Halloween party, saying you have a “great rack” doesn’t qualify you to be a librarian.
Madeleine Grant of Oxford’s St. Hilda’s College doesn’t seem to know this. According to The Daily Mail, the U.K. student ran her campaign on having a “great rack” and unsurprisingly received quite a negative response. The 19-year-old former model, who entered the race last month, is being called out for running a “sexist” campaign, “damaging the perception of women,” and promoting the naughty librarian stereotype, which many bring to life on October 31 in costume form.
Grant reportedly uploaded several half-naked photos of herself on Facebook and wrote, “I hope no-one is offended by my manifesto – it was only meant to be a light-hearted satire on an organisation which is often seen very seriously.”
Perpetuating racy stereotypes is a terrible election strategy — but maybe she’s just trying to keep the dying profession of librarians alive?
