Remember the days when finding someone attractive didn’t involve creating memes about it on the Internet? Things are much more complicated now, as MSNBC host Rachel Maddow knows all too well. The TV anchor recently devoted an entire segment of her show to explaining the evolution of the “Hey Girl, It’s Paul Ryan” movement, which has since inspired the manifestation of “Paul Ryan Gosling.”
Though known for commenting on politics, Maddow doesn’t kid around when researching other topics such as the rise of actor Ryan Gosling. Maddow says the “Paul Ryan Gosling” trend all began with the “F-ck Yeah! Ryan Gosling” Tumblr, which has photos of the celebrity alongside witty taglines of what the blogger imagines him saying. Then came the spin-off, “Feminist Ryan Gosling,” which can also be found in book form. Maddow says the “Hey Girl, Ryan Gosling” meme went on to inspire the “Hey Girl, It’s Paul Ryan” Tumblr, and now we have parody account, Paul Ryan Gosling. Thanks for creating an epic timeline for all this, Maddow, but unfortunately all the details have taken the fun out of it for me and just left me with a headache. Who knew fawning over gorgeous men could be so exhausting and complex?
