A Win For The Mets! Madoff Trustee Charges Against Mets Owners Dismissed
6:50 pm, September 27th | by Hillary Reinsberg
The Mets can finally rest easy — what a few months it’s been. Today, a judge dismissed most of the Madoff claims against the Mets ownership.
Irving Picard, the trustee of Madoff victims, filed a $1 billion bankruptcy lawsuit against Mets owners in December. Picard claimed that they owed a combination of profits and withdrawals related to their investment in the fraudulent Madoff fund. Picard claimed that the Mets owners were aware that Madoff was leading a Ponzi scheme, and therefore saw the Mets owners as guilty.
A headache, we know. But it’s over! Mostly. A judge dismissed most of the claims today. Now we kind of understand why the sale of the team has been so fraught.
