Madonna Was Joking About ‘Black Muslim’ Obama Comment…Obviously

The Internet went wild on Tuesday, when news broke of musical legend Madonna’s mid-concert remark that President Barack Obama is a “black Muslim.” Though the singer was sincerely endorsing our nation’s leader, I had a feeling she was being tongue-and-cheek about the religion comment, as much-maligned conspiracy theorists sometimes parade around the absurd idea that Obama is actually an Islamic radical. She was obvs joking, guys.

“I was being ironic on stage,” the performer told Perez Hilton. “Yes I know Obama is not a Muslim (though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is.) And what if he were? The point I was making is that a good man is a good man no matter who he prays to. I don’t care what religion Obama is – nor should anyone else in America.”

As we suspected, she was joking when she told concert attendees on Monday evening, “For better or for worse, we have a black Muslim in the White House,” just as musical artist Nicki Minaj was kidding around when she said in a song that she’s voting for Mitt Romney because “you lazy bitches is fucking up the economy.” I’ll admit it’s annoying when these celebrities employ sarcasm too much (it’s the lowest form of wit, right?), but all we can really do is just know they’re being facetious when they make totally outlandish statements. In other words, always call their bluff.
