Rodale CEO: “Romance Novels Glorify Women Who Escape From The House”

If books organized in cliques, romance novels would be among the last rungs on the social ladder. And their besties would be self-help guides.

But Maria Rodale, CEO of Rodale publishing and, yep, an author of romance novels, wants to change that perception. She thinks those books aren’t just entertaining — they’re downright empowering.

    The first romance I ever read was Gone WithThe Wind.  I loved the love story but also Scarlett’s stength.  No man, not even Rhett of Ashley was more important than taking care of her family, taking care of Tara, her families legacy.  Also, I know many people who don’t read and I would rather have those people read a romance novel than read nothing at all.
