Mark Cuban: NBA Players Could Accept A Female (Or Canine?) Coach

Mav’s owner Mark Cuban spoke with celeb-rag TMZ recently to talk about future diversity in the NBA — specifically, the chances of there ever being a female coach in the league. And he sounded optimistic that it could happen! Kind of!

After an odd moment, during which interviewer and Satan’s right hand man TMZ founder Harvey Levin reflected his weird, pseudo-prejudice against female pilots (around the 7-minute mark in the video below), Cuban faced a crucial question: “Will a male team be accepting of a woman” coach? His response was, well, not really as encouraging as I’d hoped:

“We all have our ingrained prejudices whether we want to accept them or not… the guys are going to be looking at any weaknesses… when a woman comes in they’re going to be under intense scrutiny — it won’t be easy; I think the players will question her. But the reality is, guys want to win. And if they believe this coach — male, female or dog — puts them in the best decision to win, they’re going to go to war with her.”

Male, female… or dog. I mean, hell, if guys will accept a female coach, who wouldn’t they work for, amiright?

    He, he. Dog.

But in regards to the idea, is it probable? Odds are the Cubs winning a World Series before a woman ever coaches in the NBA. But look at the other aisle: College Basketball. Geno Euriemma, head coach for the Connecticut Huskies, has been with the team for 20+ years, and is arguably one of the best coaches in the sport — unless Pat Summit has something to say(Tennesse Volunteers).

Is difficult to measure or calculate how much of a difference it can make. Is all hypothetical. It is apples and oranges because let’s be fair, the problem is not whether you are up to the job, but if you are worth the investment. I want the best female workers, but if you can’t give me a good comic-book, or a TV show, etc, then is a complex situation. This is a business, and in this biz world, is all about result(s).
