Zuckerberg Already Despises One of His New Neighbors
6:34 pm, May 9th | by Amy Tennery
Looks like things are getting sort of awkward over in Palo Alto. Now that Facebook mogul Mark Zuckerberg has plopped down $7 million for a new pad, Gawker reports that his neighbor is one of his (how can we put this delicately?) less favorite people.
Okay, they’re not literally neighbors, but reports indicate that Facebook’s former second-in-command Owen Van Natta has recently picked up a mansion about 15 blocks from Zuckerberg — which we’re guessing is closer than those two would like to be. Ever. Van Natta and Zuckerberg have an awfully uncomfortable history, what with Zuckerberg reportedly demoting and pushing out his right hand man about four years ago.
While that kerfuffle was likely a slap in the face to Van Natta, Gawker points out that he can now take comfort knowing that he’s got a prettier, fancier, bigger place to live. Because, with moguls, it’s all about who has the biggest… home.
The specs: at 7,000 square feet, Van Natta’s home is 2,000 square feet larger than Zuckerberg’s. It was listed at $8.6 million, so you know Van Natta paid more. Also, the lot its on is three times the size of Zuckerberg’s.
I’m not saying that this should be a contest (because, let’s be honest, Zuckerberg could buy a dozen multimillion-dollar vacation homes without batting an eyelash) — but if it were, Van Natta would totally be winning right now. Which we imagine, in some visceral way, probably feels really good.
Now let’s just hope they don’t run into each other at the grocery store.
