Bizarre Shoe Store Deal Offers Men As Free Gift With Purchase

In today’s edition of WEIRDEST NEWS EVER, a shoe store is offering a free man with every pair of shoes you purchase.

No, they’re not actually giving away men. This Malaysian shoe store just partnered with a dating site where men sign up and choose a bunch of shoes they’d like to see a potential date wear. A woman then purchases one of these shoes from said Malaysian shoe store, and the guy pays for the pair — anywhere from 10 percent to the full price — after the first date.

Yes, this is a weird marketing campaign, and ladies interested in this deal should probably be wary of going on dates with men who have some offbeat foot fetishes. Additionally, some HuffPo commentators have noted this whole scheme is like some sort of bizarre version of shoe prostitution, though PR folks for the shoe store insist it’s all in good fun.

Shoe dating is essentially just another way of match-making. The only difference here is shoes are the matchmaker. The matchmaking and dates are arranged by a professional licensed dating agency and the shoe discount is a bonus thrown in to make it more fun. After all, it’s shopping we’re talking about, right? Ladies pay for the shoes themselves, just the way they usually shop. And when they meet their date, the discount is just a gift any gentleman would present to his date. See? It’s nothing more than good old chivalry. :) So there you go. Weekend’s round the corner. Time for some shopping, ladies?

Yeah, that so did not quell our anxiety of becoming shoe prostitutes, but whatever.

    That’s excruciating.

An aside: I basically only wear Dansko clogs.  And since I don’t see a whole lot of men lining up to buy me nursing shoes, I’d probably be out of luck on this “matchmaking” enterprise.

    Actually just laughed out loud
