Michelle Obama Hasn’t Read ’50 Shades,’ My Faith In Humanity Has Been Restored
2:00 pm, August 27th | by Laura Donovan
Of one thing I’m certain: the world does not need one more “Fifty Shades” reader, so it’s quite a relief that first lady Michelle Obama hasn’t been leafing through the pages of E.L. James’s wildly popular erotica.
Chatting with iVillage, for which she has been guest editing for more than a week, the FLOTUS said she simply doesn’t have a free moment to sit down with a book, let alone the kinky sex novels everyone has been talking about:
“You know, you can’t live in this society without hearing about ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ Everybody has heard about that book, including me. [But I haven't] had time to read anything. But I have a lot of friends, staff, people who are reading it, so it’s all around.”
So what does she think about the “Fifty Shades” craze, which has sparked more than a little controversy? Well, she’s not going to say much about it without having read it:
“[I]t’s hard to know exactly what’s going on. But it’s obviously tacked into something, and giving people permission to explore parts of themselves that maybe felt a bit taboo. But I don’t know, that’s just a good guess.”
If you thought the president himself may have more of an opinion on the franchise, you’re out of luck. The first family has better and more important things to do than obsess over the lives of two insufferable fiction characters, and thank goodness for that.
