Basically No One In Their 20s Has Ever Worked At A Big Company

If they’re not populating the offices of Fortune 500 companies, where are they?
Gen-Y employees, or millenials as they’re frequently known, are roughly defined as “people in their 20s.” According to new research, only one in ten millenials has ever worked at a Fortune 500 company. And right now, just 7% work at Fortune 500s.
Why? Researchers surmise it’s not hust that millenials have some sort of vendetta against corporate America (even if the Occupy movement would suggest otherwise). Rather, it’s that young people prefer smaller startup environments where they can see the effect they have on the company — and feel rewarded in turn.
Some advice from AmEx Open Forum on hiring us youngsters:
The solution is to let them be “intrapreneurs” within your company. Put them in charge of their time by offering flextime and remote work schedules. Give them a challenge and let them figure out how to handle it. Then, give them both positive and negative feedback on how they did.
