The 5 Women You’ll Find On Every ‘Most Powerful’ List

Clicking through “most powerful” lists is a good deal of fun. It can be at once aspirational, inspiring, and infuriating. But it can also be something else: highly predictable. When it comes to the women who populate these lists, it tends to be the same ones over and over again. For good reason of course! But still, it’s repetitive — whether they’re the token woman thrown in nearly all-male lists or they’re heading up the “top women” lists — these are the ones we can nearly always assume are making the cut.

Again, women like Sheryl Sandberg and Indra Nooyi are worthy of these company kept on these lists, it just makes the lists somewhat less interesting when it’s the same names recycled over and over again. Are there others you think get included far too often? On the other hand, who’s always getting left out? Do weigh in below.

Personally, I am getting bored with seeing Melissa Mayer on these lists. Don’t get me wrong – she is a brilliant and deserves the accolades. I just can’t believe there isn’t any other powerful women with a technical background. I may also feel this way because I follow tech pretty closely. There may be non-techie people that don’t know Mayer’s work.
