Yes, Mom Does Know Best: Motherhood Ups Your Smarts, Study Claims
12:15 pm, August 4th | by Amy Tennery
Challenging the ancient wisdom of teenagers across the country, a new report shows that your mother, in fact, does know best.
Giving birth to a child can significantly up your memory, according to the study out of the University of Miami, which NBC reported. While the sample size was small — studying just 35 new mothers — its findings contradict previous claims that babies turn moms’ minds to mush. One of the researchers indicated the study could be restarted among a larger sample pool, to confirm its findings.
As NBC noted, it’s not uncommon for women to experience changes in their brain throughout pregnancy. While researchers didn’t identify what exactly it is about childbirth that boosts your smarts, they noted that a post-pregnancy “re-mapping” could be the culprit.
Of course, you could always just take your mom’s word for it. That’s probably best.
