Musk: Humans are “Hanging out on Earth Until Some Calamity Claims Us”
1:55 pm, August 2nd | by Amy Tennery
No, Elon Musk isn’t buying into any doomsday nonsense (that we know of). But it would appear that this commercial space mogul is getting increasingly, umm, urgent in his goal of bringing intergalactic travel to the masses.
As you may recall, Musk has been making good progress in his mission lately. A couple weeks ago he broke ground on a launch pad equipped to handle the largest rocket in the world. And now he’s pledged to make it to Mars by 2018.
But, according to some comments CNET came across, Musk’s tenor toward the issue of space flight has shifted:
“Ultimately, the thing that is super important in the grand scale of history is, are we on a path to becoming a multi-planet species or not? If we’re not, that’s not a very bright future. We’ll just be hanging out on Earth until some eventual calamity claims is.”
Is it weird that I just got chills?
