Naomi Watts Tapped To Play Princess Diana

Twenty-four million Americans woke up before sunrise to tune in and watch William and Kate say “I do.” So it’s no wonder the Hollywood studios have decided to cash in on monarch mania.

Ecosse Films announced today that Naomi Watts will play Princess Di in Caught in Flight, which will depict the last two years of the princess’ life. Based on the brief description media outlets were given about the film, it seems as though it’ll be inspirational, bittersweet and, most of all, quite sad. After all, it’s Princess Di we’re talking about here. But that’s just pure speculation. So far, all we actually know is that the film will cover Princess Diana’s transition to a prominent international figure before her death at 36.

Either way, we all know this film is going to be veeeery different from the current fare of British biopic featured at your local Loews. For one thing, making a biopic about a deceased princess who’s etched into the hearts and minds of pretty much everyone is going to be significantly different than a movie depicting the life of one of the most controversial British prime ministers in recent memory.
