Sisters, brothers: a miracle has occurred in our midst! Comedian Wanda Sykes has resurrected the NBC reality series Last Comic Standing, a show that has been off the air for three whole years! All praise Wandsus Sykes!
The comedic competition will return next summer for an eighth season, THR reports. This go-round standup vet Sykes will executive produce alongside producing partner Page Hurwitz who worked on the series between 2006 and 2010. This won’t be the program’s first miraculous resurrection: after NBC canceled the show in 2004, the series was brought back in 2006, placed on hiatus the summer of 2009, aired in 2010, and has been shelved ever since. NBC has not announced an exact air date or a new host for the series, though comedians Jay Mohr, Anthony Clark, Bill Bellamy, Fearne Cotton, and Craig Robinson have all helmed the show in the past.
The return of Last Comic Standing is great news: since starting its winding and uphill journey in 2003, the standup competition has given exposure to breakout stars like Amy Schumer, Kathleen Madigan, Doug Benson, and Gabriel Iglesias.
