New Study Says Hookups Are Less Gratifying For Women
5:03 pm, June 2nd | by Lilly ODonnell
A new study suggests that women get more sexual satisfaction out of “relationship sex” than “hookup sex.”
Don’t you just love when studies prove things you already know?
The study, from the June issue of the American Sociological Review, includes data from surveys of undergraduates at 21 universities and in-depth interviews with 85 students, in an attempt to measure female orgasm and sexual enjoyment in the context of the “hookup culture” of college campuses — and to understand the factors that lead to that satisfaction, or the lack thereof.
Qualitative analysis suggests a double standard also contributes to why relationship sex is better for women: both men and women question women’s (but not men’s) entitlement to pleasure in hookups but believe strongly in women’s (as well as men’s) entitlement to pleasure in relationships.
