Since our government
is i n time out has shut down (#ALLDISRESPECTTOTHEREPUBLICANPARTY) and taken the only thing keeping the masses complacent — the National Zoo’s PandaCam— with it, now’s the time to avert your natural impulse to Purge by looking ahead to a future when Niecy Nash and Ja’mie King will be on our televisions. So grab a thermos, add however much vodka it’ll take to assuage your urge to escape from New York, and watch trailers with us!
First up, Getting On, HBO’s adaptation of the award-winning British medical comedy of the same name. Nash (whom I would watch emptying the lint trays of a thousand dryers), Laurie Metcalf, Mel Rodriguez, and Alex Borstein are beleaguered nurses in a women’s geriatric extended-care wing who navigate an overwhelmed healthcare system with dark humor and brutal honesty. The series premieres on November 24th at 10 PM.
Following Getting On in the 10:30 slot will be the highly-anticipated return of TV’s favorite entitled teen: Ja’mie King. Ja’mie King: Private School Girl will follow the eponymous Queen Bee during the last few months of her high school career. What can we expect from Chris Lilley’s most beloved character? If the past is any indication, there’ll be plenty of condescension, passive-aggressive slights, and outrageousness — just what the doctor ordered!
Ja’mie’s unabashed privilege will provide an interesting counterpoint to Getting On‘s dilapidation and poop-chairs. I’m not sure how the two new series will function as a pair but I’m definitely excited to find out.
