Noël Wells Allegedly Joining Saturday Night Live Cast

While no official announcement or confirmation has been made, Deadline is reporting that four new cast members will be joining Saturday Night Live as featured players: comedian John Milhiser; members of sketch comedy group Good Neighbor, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett; and lone female wolf, Noël Wells. Nary a woman of color has made the cut — in case you are keeping track, if this report is accurate, the 39th SNL cast would be 0 for 15. Since we love us a lady comedian (sisters are doin’ funnies for themselves!), let’s get to know Miss Noël Wells a little better.
A Los Angeles resident, Wells is a performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade, the improv and sketch theater co-founded by Amy Poehler. (In fact, all four of the alleged new cast members have spent time at UCB.) But, along with finding success in all the traditional comedic channels, she has really made a name for herself by adapting to this crazy, wacky, web 2.0 world. According to her UCB bio, Wells’ “sketch and parody YouTube videos have been viewed over 10 millions times and have been featured on numerous blogs and sites including BestWeekEver, Tosh.0, and Huffington Post.” Internet-savviness launched Andy Samberg to fame and enlivened SNL’s fairly staid audience base, so acquiring Wells could be a smart move.
Following closer inspection, we can certainly see why her videos have been blowing up. While her sketch-work is nothing to shake a stick at…
…Wells is an incredible impressionist, so much so, I’m willing to put her on that Darrell Hammond level. (Yes, I’m going there.) Her riffs on Zooey Deschanel and Kristen Stewart are pretty flawless.

Hopefully the Deadline rumors are right — we wouldn’t mind watching Noël Wells on SNL while laying on our futons, in our pajamas, vacillating between a six pack and an open bag of Cheetos. Actually, that sounds like a little slice of paradise.
