Occupy Wall Street Gets A Wedding
5:19 pm, November 13th | by Hillary Reinsberg
Occupy Wall Street already had its cheesy marriage proposal, and this weekend, it’s gotten its first wedding.
Two protesters got married this morning near Zuccotti Park. Emery Abdel-Latif, 24, and Micha Balon, 19, met while protesting in September, The New York Daily News reports. Things, it would appear, progressed quickly from there.
The couple was pleased that the ceremony was free, surely a nice echo of the Occupy movement’s populist message. Though the couple wants to make clear they’re not seeking attention and are trying to promote equality, they weren’t without some indulgent, sappy words. ”I’m not sure I believed in love before I met her,” Abdel-Latif said.
