Wait…Occupy Wall Street Has A Luxury PR Firm?

We’ve had a hard time pinpointing the exact “cause” behind Occupy Wall Street, but we’re pretty sure it has something to do with hating on the corporate world and big, fancy luxury things. Explain to us, then, how Occupy Wall Street ended up with a high-end luxury PR firm?

The protesters have complained about a lack of media coverage. Workhouse Publicity has stepped in, pro bono. Protesters said they received emails — unsolicited — from the high end PR firm, which included a link to an album of photos from the protest posted by Workhouse’s CEO.

There’s been lots of support for Occupy Wall Street — but from a company that makes a business of promoting brands and events like Fashion Week, Saks Fifth Avenue and Swiss luxury watch brand Bucherer? Seems a bit strange.

“We have no agenda and our service in this regard is simple: Publicize the message as the march continues,” CEO Adam Nelson said.

Does anyone have an agenda around these parts?

Wait…what kind of sweeping, grassroots, bottom-up sociopolitical protest movement needs a PR firm? And doesn’t patronizing one go against capitalist principles that the movement itself eschews?

What’s with all these rich liberals jumping on board but not sacrificing any of their personal wealth to show solidarity with the movement’s ideals?

Huh. And these people seemed so genuine.

  • http://www.kenshane.com kshane

Non-story. Disparage them all you want, but these kids need and deserve our support. Finally people have had the balls to stand up and say “enough!” Enjoy your moment because when this movement succeeds, trash journalism is dead.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

These kids need to look for work and stop laying around in the street screaming at nebulous, imagined enemies in skyscrapers.

  • http://www.kenshane.com kshane

Fortunately for you, and the system you love so much, many of those kids are laying around in jail. Be sure to keep your eyes closed tightly and believe everything that the media tells you.

  • Milanamandich

Exhibit 1 of pro-Obama community organizing in cahoots with crony capitalists- nothing new here. Glenn Beck predicted it a year ago. Is anybody buying into this crap, really?

  • Billanderson_9

I don’t care what is being said about the movement, most of the people here don’t care what the rich people have, it is how they got it, if they got it by greed the middleclass and below suffer by their actions, this is what they are saying. The movement needs their voices to be heard and if it is heard by all then we will be on the right track to heal America and its people. This is not to  share the wealth but to get the greed out so all can enjoy the America dream by working hard and getting the chance of the American dream.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

They’re laying in jail becuase they tried to block the Brooklyn Bridge. They don’t have a right to shut down the entire city or thruways just becuase they don’t like that somebody makes a larger paycheck than the entirety of them combined can muster. They don’t have rights to vandalize or to attack bystanders. They don’t have a right to prevent other law-abiding citizens of the city from making a living.

And they don’t have a right to force people to pay attention to them. They can yell and scream all they want – we don’t have to listen or pay them mind.

Ask the ambulance driver who couldn’t get a patient to the ER whether them blocking public bridges that they pay no taxes to support is acceptable. Hell – even if they do pay taxes or tolls, they still have no right to block a bridge. Sorry – them’s the rules of civilized society.

“Social justice, man.” Whatever. Get the hell out of the way.

This is such a ludicrously right-wing writeup that it doesn’t really merit a reasoned response.

George Soros is donating behind the scenes as usual…

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

What the hell does “if they got it by greed the middle class and below suffer by their actions” mean? What are you babbling about?

Define “greed” for the entire society, please.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

How about the notion that the anti-capitalist, “anti-greed” protestors have solicited and partnered with a high-powered PR firm to help pimp their pointless ’cause?’

Doesn’t sound very “grassroots,” does it?

  • Suzanne

There are no jobs. Where have you been?

Outrage is needed to keep Obama in office, otherwise they lose the election because there isn’t as much emotion pushing people to the polls as there is on the other side of the aisle.

Interesting on how an administration with such close ties to Wall Street are not really targeted in this movement, and even when they are, it’s almost in an “oh yeah, those guys too” kind of way.

  • Kwislandlime@gmail.com

THis is the real story!! Thank you for exposing the fakes as they are. Did you see the amount of lap tops at this protest?! Hating capitilism while enjoying our capitalist society is dispicable and shameful. Hypocrits-  that is who these protesters are…who are they really angry at? OBAMA ..but they dont have the guts to expose him as he is…a wall street crony friend NOT foe!! Check the facts on who benfited  from the baliouts under Obamas watch …….Great article and true journalism…thanks again for exposing the phonies behind this so called movement.

All these “kids” want is for America to be a Socialist/Communist nation.  I watched several “kids” interviewed and they both said that they wanted (re)distribution of wealth.  One young lady came right out and said (I’m paraphrasing), ‘if all the rich people would share their money with everyone else in the country, then everything would be beautiful.’  Duh, yeah, I guess you would think getting MONEY FOR FREE, FOR DOING NOTHING TO EARN IT, was a beautiful thing!  However, that is Socialism/Communism, and that is NOT the American way.  PLEASE, ALL PEOPLE who want to live under Socialism/Communism, move to Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, Iran, or Communist China – they already have this system in place, GO AND ENJOY IT!  I’LL PAY – JUST GO, ENJOY YOUR SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST LIFE, AND PROMISE TO NEVER COME BACK!
WHY do you persist in trying to change our 235 year-old system of self-reliance?  If you don’t like it, YOU ARE FREE TO GO AWAY!

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

Complain to the President. He’s the one who “creates jobs,” after all.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

They know this as well as we do. They also know deep down that they’re completely full of it, that what they really want is an anarchistic society of mob rule and constant civil unrest. Like the mush-heads of eras before them, they have no idea what they’re even advocating for. They’re pushing for regression.

Their creed is dying, they’re running out of time, and they know it.

Hence, the desperation, the screaming, the flailing, the calls for civil unrest, the impotent protesting, etc.

They’re bankrupt intellectually and morally, and the bill for their decades-old quest to make a new “utopia” out of the long-dead-and-discredited ideals of feudal Eastern Europe is quickly coming due.

  • Kvn Keating

“Kids need to look for work..screaming at..imaginary enemies..”..You think it was they that looted, crippled the nation’s economy, perhaps permanently? Are they the Greed pigs hoarding. exploiting the many for the piggish few? Oh, yea, Lt. you’re paying real close attention, imagining these “kids” and the millions joining worldwide  concretely isolating the site of the massive crimes, Wall St, psychotic capitalism, the hedge fund pigs, those who pay themselves in the hundreds of millions, furtive hiding thieves in their gated communities, getting their slavish defenders like you abandoning ship in droves any moment. Batten down the hatches, you servile lackey, this has  just begun to rise.

  • Walt

“We’ve had a hard time pinpointing the exact ’cause’ behind Occupy Wall
Street, but we’re pretty sure it has something to do with hating on the
corporate world and big, fancy luxury things.”  Spoken like someone obsessed with materialism.

You see this is the problem with the right’s narrow minded, black and white, world view conclusions which creates a false negative stereotype against those who don’t think like them. The “Occupy Wall Street” is about the corruption of those corporations and banks who are not being held accountable by the government who are, instead, getting in bed with these corrupt corporations and banks.

Accept for a small percent of anarchists, these people from all walks of life are not against corporations who create jobs and pay livable wages and provide ladders to climb up and benefits like Costco.  They are against these multinational corporations like the Koch brothers (www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-10-02/koch-brothers-flout-law-getting-richer-with-secret-
iran-sales.htm) that act more like organized crime and the banks like Goldman Goldman Sachs looted so many peoples money here in America and the world bring down the economy… then getting bailed out by the tax payers with no strings attached… then going back to business as usual.

They are not against people make good money for hard work but they are against this ridiculous practice that American corporations do with these CEO “Golden Parachutes” even when they fail at their job… at the sacrifice of worker’s employment and pay and benefits.

But they realize there are corporations that do good business practices.  And they realize there are wealthy people who don’t mind paying more in taxes… as Sir Ian McKellen said one time on Real Time with Bill Maher, “… I’m still going to be rich.”

And if this firm want to help promote the “cause” pro bono… God bless them.  It certainly isn’t like a whole news network promoting 27/7 and carrying 24/7 a truly astro turf movement that we saw over at FOX News and carried over into the corporate media.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LUKTQTZLZUTCR3SGOO76TTVOGY moremonkeybusiness

This whole movement sounds suspicious. Could it be that the Tea
Party has appeared to be the only party concerned about overtaxing and
the little guy and the left created this movement to balance (and snuff
out) the effectiveness of the Tea Party.

After all this group still supports the reelection of Obama who is a large reason as to why the US is in all this mess.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

Don’t bogart that joint, though. Pass it around.

good grief—look at all the Rightie haters out here, slithered from under their rocks—-wondering how on earth could any PR firm perhaps sympathize with this movement !    If you remember correctly for the first 2 weeks, NO MSM was giving this the time of day!     And all this defense for Wall Street stooges who Bush helped ruin this country!!!      What is it with you righties, that you must defend the wealthy, the corporations, the banks, those with the money.    You think for ONE minute any of these Wall Street, execs, hedge fund salesmen, CEO’s give one damn about YOU?    If you were anybody, you sure would not be sitting like some stooge on a computer, diddling away your time on boards spewing your un-educated rhetoric.    Have another glass of that red koolaid, boyz.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

Blah blah Fox News blah blah rightwing blah blah CEOs blah blah corporations blah blah Koch Brothers blah blah

You’re a living, breathing Obama talking point. Obama is more in bed with Wall Street than any GOP candidate he will be running against. Solyndra make you mad? Of course not. Obama’s Enron would never anger you.

But you don’t care about that.

    Anything else?

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

But remember – “this isn’t about Right or Left – it’s about Right and Wrong,” we’re told by the Obamabot protesters pretending they’re out defeating some kind of evil enemy on your behalf.

They’re nothing but Obama-worshiping do-nothings who didn’t get all the free taxpayer-funded stuff that Obama promised them, so they want to take it out on skyscrapers and, um, business owners making a living.

  • Anonymous

If the organization is offering their services pro-bono, which they are, it’s still very much within the message.

  • Billanderson_9

Million dollar bonuses from the tax payers bailout, insurance extreme cost and their huge salaries, rich paying at a lower tax rate than most people, and tax loop holes than benefit the rich. Shall I continue babbling or is your ears and eyes closed to what has been happening in America.

  • Anonymous

You must really have it in for these protesters.  I’ve seen you on nearly every single message board relating to OccupyWallStreet denigrating these people. You seem to have an unhealthy obsession.

You know, there are a lot of libertarians out there, as well.

And I hate to break it to you, but most of these protesters are recent college grads, not hippies.  And most are not fans of Obama.  That’s because their generation, my generation, has an unemployment rate above 20%.

Frankly, I cannot take you seriously.  You reply to every impassioned post with extremely juvenile and hackneyed responses. For someone who seems to like to mouth off anonymously, do don’t seem to put in much effort or thought.

I also pity you.  Spending so much time fighting the big dogs’ fight and selling your own future short, you’re not even being compensated.

  • Billanderson_9

Your understanding is hindered by your hate.

  • Walt

Both parties are guilty of taking Wall Street money because of the catch-22 of the billion dollar election process industry.  Any politician who would be willing to fight for a Constitutional Amendment to end this corruption of big money in our electoral process would get my vote.  Sen. Scott Brown is the the largest recipient of Wall Street money in Congress.  Romney is getting quite a bit of Wall Street money as well.

Solyndra is your talking point straw dog to attack Obama’s green jobs program.  But if you were to check out many other companies who have received stimulus money for their green job programs you would find that there has been great success in his green jobs program.  Compared to what Enron did hardly compares to Solydnra.  You are grasping for straws.

I don’t need a Obama talking point to see the obvious that you are unable to see.

What I find amusing is how many people fail to realize the importance of history, especially in this discussion. Providing a wholesome living for yourself is healthy and necessary. The protestors on WallStreet have many individuals present who have a wide spectrum of beliefs. After reading the article and all of the comments, I noticed that the individuals against the WallStreet protestors are cherrypicking their most damning quotes to defame the central message of the protest. They also seem to toss around the word “socialist” as if they know what it means. :) We are NOT living in a capitalist country. Those of you that keep blathering on about how the protestors want a socialist/communist country are by far the dumbest and most uneducated people I’ve ever come across in these discussions. The United States of America has been as a socialist country for a very long time. I’m not referencing Medicaid or Medicare but government bailouts. When my government has been giving out MY tax money to millionaires and billionaires, that is socialist and communist. I own my own small business, http://www.waiterpop.com, and I understand the intricacies of finance very well. The protestors are not saying that I should be torn down from my office. The individuals who they are targeting are not individuals who work hard for their money, or necessarily capitalism. They are targeting the private banking elite who engineer recessions, depressions, policies, and international laws simply to create a impassable divide between them, the 1% of the remaining 99%. Everyone who is commenting at this wonderful blog are part of the 99%. Our personal incomes will vary greatly, which will obviously influence your opinion on the protests, but nonetheless – we are all the 99%. It’s basic economics really.

The individuals that need to be arrested are not those who make Apple iPhones and pastries, but individuals who are manipulating our money, our taxes, and our government policies simply for power and greed. Those are the Rockefellers, Bidleburgs, Morgans, Goldmansachs, Carnigies, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Trilateral Cmission. The perpetrators are those who are making billions from no product that contributed to the success of America. WallStreet is simply paper manipulations, collateralized debt obligations, and reverse mortgages. As we say, “Financial Magic” at it’s best. Tear into the WallStreet protestors if it helps you sleep at night. Just because the master is playing favorites with his slaves does not change the fact that you are a slave. Mentally a slave, emotionally a slave, and physically a slave. Wake up and smell the hummus. Let them have the PR Firm, the protestors are not damning luxury items. Go to their website and do your research.

Wall street got him elected the first go around – now he’s against Wall street so needs to fund solar projects to raise money – I mean, no one can “find” or account for the 1/2 billion given to 1 of many solar companies. I wonder how much of that money will find it’s way into the big stinks (BO) campaign fund?  All the signs being carried were most likely produced by the SEIU as well. It’s only starting to get ugly. You’ll see the left for what they really are – violent

Here’s an explanation:   “Occupy Wall Street” is another big U.S. intel PSYOP, a honeypot to lure protesters who are then deemed to be “dissidents” and thus thrown into the U.S. Homeland-mil-intel extrajudicial persecution matrix, as reported by this veteran mainstream journalist (and victim of the despots within):

I’ll bet this is right-wing distortion or just bull.

  • Roadworrier

Sounds like many of the protesters seem to have a spiritual relationship with Bin Laden (i.e., attacking America at its corporate heart) even if they don’t have the jihadi instincts…..

  • Billanderson_9

Sounds to me many of the protesters want jobs, love
America, are intelligent, want America to rebound, and just want corporate America
to stop robbing, taking, and stealing from them and giving to the rich. Where
have you been for the last 20 years, have you not seen the gap between the rich
and the poor widening, the middle class disappearing, people working two jobs
trying to make ends meet while seeing million dollar bonuses to wall street
from the tax payers money, that is a slap in the face to them that you don’t
see or choose not to see.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

Tea Partiers that you so vitriolically hate oppose taxpayer bailouts of companies like Solyndra and Goldman Sachs as much as you do. They also oppose a lot of other middle-class-sapping taxpayer-funded crap as well that you emphatically support for some reason.

    Consistency. Try it.

Name some “tax loopholes” that you oppose. Be specific.

Name the official “lower tax rate” that the “rich” pay. Include state, local and federal taxes. Specify whether it’s capital gains or income tax.

Insurance costs money. Now that your President has required each human to pay insurance in order to live, it will cost more. You voted for change, and now you have it. Deal with it.

Admit it – this isn’t about the “rich.” There are plenty of rich, affluent, trust-fund-baby liberals that are glomming onto your little temper tantrum.

This is a bunch of Obama supporters not protesting against their fraudulent President.

    You shall continue babbling, though.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

But they charge money to other clients, which is very capitalist of them.

So they’re guilty according to your “morality.”

    Fail.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

You ARE an Obama talking point.

The fact that you dismiss the Solyndra scandal while praising Obama’s failed “green jobs” program is evidence that your President can do no wrong in your eyes, even when he doubles and quadruples down on the worst tendencies of the Bush Administration.

    They don’t care.

This isn’t about protesting Wall Street. This is about supporting Obama’s re-election.

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

    Aw. They want jobs.

Why hasn’t their President waved the Magic Job Wand and “created or saved” them, then?

After all, that’s how jobs are created and sustained – by magic. And increasing taxes.

    Duh.

Here’s some friendly advice: If you want a job, standing around in the street yelling about “greed” isn’t going to get you one.

  • Anonymous

Don’t assume that you know my ‘morality’.

Occupy Wall Street is not ‘anti-capitalist’; it’s anti-plutocratic and anti-corporatocratic.  So, it’s perfectly fine for them to accept the services of a businessman.
