Inside The Weird, Wonderful Etsy World Of Oprah
8:45 am, December 8th | by Amy Tennery
Safe to say that business leaders don’t always inspire a great deal of adoration. Sure, lots of people think Indra Nooyi is pretty great but no one’s putting a poster of her up on the wall anytime soon, if you know what I mean.
But Oprah? Please. She has a whole army of loyalists — and they all belong to Etsy, apparently. For those of you who don’t regularly wander through the wonders of Etsy (an online venue for crafters to sell their wares), let me fill you in: there’s a veritable Oprah shrine. And, yes, some of it’s praise for her popular catchphrases and life’s mantras. But a large portion of it is devoted to celebrating her track record as a businesswoman. No, really, there’s actually someone on there who’s selling a poem in honor of the OWN network. And another person painted a corporate-style portrait of her, the kind you’d see hanging in old-school boardrooms. It’s an Oprah cottage industry.
So, scrap that tired old holiday gift guide — and come see for yourself:
