Oprah Surprises 400 Women At Transcendental Meditation Festival In Iowa

How’d you spend your weekend?

Oprah Winfrey spent hers meditating with over 400 women in Iowa. And the best part — it was a total surprise. None of the women knew she was coming. She apparently shared details of her own “spiritual journey” with the women and participated in the meditation.

Seriously, can you imagine? You sign up for some transcendental meditation retreat in Iowa, you probably leave your cell phone at home and think you’re leaving the world behind for the weekend. And then there’s Oprah! With a film crew! We at Mogulite obviously would find this to be most awesome. But we have to wonder if Oprah was a little distracting to those with transcendental aspirations. We clearly find Oprah to be transcendental, but it might be hard to focus on oneself in her presence.

That wasn’t a “festival.” That was merely part of the daily practice for the town of Fairfield, Iowa. About 10% of the town practices TM and 1000 (one thousand) vedic pundits also practice in a group nearby at the same time in order to boost the total numbers towards the theoretical minimum required to affect the USA in a positive way via group meditation.
You can monitor the total numbers each day at this website. It is part of an ongoing attempt to document the effects of group meditation on the national level. The figures go back 5 years:

not a festival people meditate there everyday! with or without Oprah! it was a fun vibe all around the town though! :D

I feel that it would wonderful if the folks that “follow” Oprah were inspired to learn TM. I applaud her for checking it out. But the “film crew” with her? Please . . . . .
