Oprah Nabs Coveted Harvard Commencement Speech Gig
1:30 pm, March 5th | by Meredith Lepore
Though Oprah has had some rough moments in her career since wrapping up her talk show, she has booked one of the most coveted speaking engagements around: the Harvard commencement speech. She will speak at the school’s 362nd graduation exercises on May 30.
From Reuters:
“Oprah’s journey from her grandmother’s Mississippi farm to becoming one of the world’s most admired women is one of the great American success stories,” Harvard President Drew Faust said in announcing her selection.
Winfrey will join a long list of politicians, policy makers, captains of industry and authors – including George Marshall, Bill Gates and J.K. Rowling – who have offered their wisdom and advice to Harvard’s graduating classes.”
Telling young smart kids to pursue their dreams is nothing new for Oprah. She has given commencement speeches at Stanford University, Duke University and Spelman College in recent years.
But as one of the most successful women on the planet, a regular on the Forbes’ billionaire list, awesome picker of books and all around cool person, those Harvard kids should listen up.
