OWN Announces New “Oprah’s Next Chapter” Show, Featuring A Sleep Over At Paula Deen’s House

Oprah’s had some trying times starting her new network — ratings have been weak, she had to take over as CEO and her friend Gayle King announced she was jumping ship for CBS last week.
But OWN announced this weekend that Oprah will be premiering her own show come January, a weekly program that will air at Sundays at 9 p.m. It’ll be called “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”
While Oprah became famous for her riveting talk show, she says she’s getting “out of the armchair” for this one. In the first episode, to air on January 1, she spends time with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler at his house in New Hampshire. And it sounds like it’ll get better from there.
According to OWN’s press release, ”During the first season, Oprah also journeys to Haiti with Sean Penn nearly two years after the devastating earthquake that took the lives of more than 300,000 people, tours Skywalker Ranch with George Lucas as her personal guide, has a slumber party at Southern chef Paula Deen’s Georgia estate and travels to a small town in Iowa devoted to the practice of Transcendental Meditation.”
Ah, that would explain this.
This looks like it’ll be a big win for OWN, which it feels has relied too much on Oprah’s name and not on particularly engaging programs. A slumber party at Paula Deen’s house? I think so.
