Female Banker Shares Spectacularly Creepy Career Advice: Get Plastic Surgery!

And now, something that makes my skin crawl: A personal account from an anonymous woman in the investment banking industry, who told Oprah.com that she had 10 plastic surgeries in order to improve her career.

“My career instantly shifted into a higher gear. I was suddenly being courted by senior partners, included in meetings with the CEOs and CFOs of current and prospective clients. I thought, ‘Wait a minute—I’m the same person I was before the surgeries.’ But now I looked like a bombshell in addition to being really good at my work, and it definitely opened up more opportunities. That’s when I began to think of the surgeries as an asset and an investment.”

Stoppppppppp.

In total, she told Oprah.com that she had a nose job, ear-pinning, forehead lift, lip fillers (not technically surgery, but whatever), a tummy tuck, facelift, teeth veneers, her “eyes done” (what does that even mean?) and “lip surgery to repair the damage done by the filler.” Of course, I’m not sure what’s creepier from this item: phrases like “my career instantly shifted into a higher gear” or this epilogue from the Q&A:

“Anonymous concedes that anything attractive about her came from a dermatologist, a plastic surgeon, or a dentist.”

I don’t mean to get all semantical here, but isn’t “concedes” kind of a harsh word to use? Like, somehow her lack of attractiveness before surgery was a “fact” that she needed to “concede” to us all? Ick.

That’s uncool to show a photo of someone who has had closer to 50 plastic surgies to illustrate this story. Having had plastic surgery myself, I know it is possible to look good and natural. I do agree with your reaction to the wording (“concedes”).
