Masked Russian Police Raid Prokhorov-Owned Bank

New Jersey Nets owner and newly minted Russian political leader Mikhail Prokhorov is the part-owner of the International Finance Club bank, which was raided by police in Moscow, Reuters reports. ”Investigative actions were conducted in relation to one of our borrowers,” the bank’s head said. It has nothing to do with politics, he assured. Others, like a lawyer for the bank, thought there might be a connection. ”I cannot rule it out. I don’t know, but I think nothing can be ruled out,” he said.
Reuters describes the scene:
“Several luxury cars drew up outside the bank on a busy boulevard near the Kremlin and law enforcement officers, some wearing masks and carrying guns, entered and ordered employees and clients not to leave.”
The harrowing-sounding ordeal ultimately ended without much drama. Police said they had no claims against the bank, and left. At which point, we’re guessing, they were stared down by one of the 3,000-plus posters of Prokhorov currently adorning the city of Moscow.
