Yes, This Is Serious: ‘The Notebook’ Destroyed R. Kelly’s Marriage

Go ahead and laugh, but I feel very lucky that iconic romance “The Notebook” hit theaters the year I turned 16. It showed me what I wanted in relationships, and anything less than Allie and Noah’s dynamic just wouldn’t cut it. R. Kelly, who is 21 years my senior, was much older than I upon seeing the movie for the first time and divorced his wife of 12 years because he felt his marriage lacked the special connection the drama’s main characters have.

“As the film credits started to roll, I couldn’t move. I burst into tears,” the rapper writes in his new memoir. “People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me…I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine’s Day — when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses — that had come and gone…My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.”

Well, I guess the crumbling of R. Kelly’s union is the first and last negative contribution Ryan Gosling will ever make to this world.

Hahahaha! Don’t have many people I can talk to about Nicholas Sparks books, movies. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is: “…it’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be really hard. We’re going to have to work at it everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, you and me, everyday.” ..or something like that. Sorry for rambling! But I really love this movie. lol

Fun! Now if R. Kelly could also use “A Walk to Remember” as another reason for his failing marriage.. :p

    Good movie, but so sad.

For some reason it wont let me continue the comment thread. Mandy Moore’s “Only Hope” gets me every time. I remember watching it with an ex a few years ago. I think movies like that (almost any Nick Sparks) can bring people closer together.
