Yes, This Is Serious: ‘The Notebook’ Destroyed R. Kelly’s Marriage

Go ahead and laugh, but I feel very lucky that iconic romance “The Notebook” hit theaters the year I turned 16. It showed me what I wanted in relationships, and anything less than Allie and Noah’s dynamic just wouldn’t cut it. R. Kelly, who is 21 years my senior, was much older than I upon seeing the movie for the first time and divorced his wife of 12 years because he felt his marriage lacked the special connection the drama’s main characters have.
“As the film credits started to roll, I couldn’t move. I burst into tears,” the rapper writes in his new memoir. “People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me…I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine’s Day — when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses — that had come and gone…My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.”
Well, I guess the crumbling of R. Kelly’s union is the first and last negative contribution Ryan Gosling will ever make to this world.
