Heartbreakingly Wonderful: 9-Year-Old Girl Posthumously Raises $1.2M For Charity [VIDEO]

Rachel, a girl living in the U.S., decided for her ninth birthday she would eschew presents, instead asking friends and family to make a donation to charity: water, a non-profit that provides clean water access to the disadvantaged. She fell short of her $300 goal, raising $220, but pledged she would “try harder” the next year. A month later, Rachel died in a car accident.
But Rachel’s fundraising dream wasn’t over.
After her story became national news, charity: water was flooded with donations in her name. In total, 30,000 people donated more than $1.2 million.
A year after her death, Rachel’s mother traveled to Ethiopia to see how that money changed one community’s life. The resulting footage is tremendously moving:
