Rebel Wilson’s Career Is About to Explode

Rebel Wilson’s career is already on the up and up thanks to her roles in three major films last year: What to Expect when You’re Expecting, Pitch Perfect and Bachelorette. She is also working on a pilot for ABC called Super Fun Night. Plus she is hosting the MTV Movie Awards, a big coup for any comedian (and making her the seventh woman to do so.) And now Rebel’s career could get even bigger as she is being considered for a role in The Hunger Games: MockingJay.
“Rebel, 27, teased her possible part in The Hunger Games in a new interview. When asked if she would consider starring in the franchise, she said “Um, seriously, I have had a meeting about being in The Hunger Games. Yes,” to Buzzfeed.
How amazing! She was then asked what district her character would be from, referring to the novel’s dystopian future world, and she “It was one of the people in the capitol. That’s all I’ll say.”
Rebel then added that the character would be a good choice, “because there aren’t a lot of roles open, because they’ve all already been cast, but that would be awesome. I’d love to be in The Hunger Games.””
That could be a career game changer. Plus I could totally see her and Jennifer Lawrence getting along swimmingly.
In addition to all this, Wilson sold an untitled comedy pitch to Universal last year, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. No details are available on the project, although Wilson is attached to write the script, and will also act and produce.
But Rebel did feel some rejection in the beginning of her career because of her atypical Hollywood size. From The LA Times:
Although her weight wasn’t something Wilson addressed head-on in conversation, she did say that once she began pursuing an acting career in Australia, she noticed her “more glamorous actress-type” friends booking jobs when she was not — even though, Wilson says, “I thought I was killing it on stage.”
She went to see an agent for a meeting. “He said, ‘Well, you’re not going to get a job on ‘Home and Away’ as a bikini beach babe,” she said, referring to the popular Australian soap opera that has launched the career of such Aussie actors as Heath Ledger, Chris Hemsworth and Isla Fisher.
“I was really pissed off,” Wilson said. “Don’t they see I’m talented? Don’t they see that I’m funny and interesting? But of course nobody did.”
But instead of sitting around crying about it, Rebel decided to take action and writer her own screenplay and star in it. That led to more parts and eventually to Judd Apatow and Bridesmaids director Paul Feig writing a part especially for her in the film.
And since then, Rebel has been laughing all the way to the bank. We can’t wait to watch her host the Movie Awards. They need more ladies up there (and she has to be better than Jessica Alba.)
