Rep. Phil Gingrey Wants Schools to Formally Enforce Gender Stereotypes

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA), one of the most anti-LGBT members of Congress, announced Monday that — surprise! — he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. Unfortunately we’re used to hearing this mantra from conservative politicians, so it took more than that ignorance to provoke us into writing a post. Perhaps in honor of Father’s Day, Gingrey decided to ride the Herp Derp Train to the end of the line and revealed his totally idiotic theory on how we can all save the ‘Murican family:
You know, maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is what’s important. This is what a father does that is maybe a little different, maybe a little bit better than the talents that a mom has in a certain area. And the same thing for the young girls, that, you know, this is what a mom does, and this is what is important from the standpoint of that union which we call marriage.
This is… just, no. JUST. NO.
First of all, it’s not like traditional gender roles aren’t enforced enough in popular culture, the media, advertisements, YOU NAME IT. Secondly, to suggest purposely conditioning children IN A FREAKING CLASSROOM SETTING is totally ridiculous. Of course parents bring different skills to the table but that has absolutely nothing to do with gender in either homosexual or heterosexual relationships. We all know that there are millions of working moms and a growing number of stay-at-home dads. Sometimes Mommy takes out the trash and Daddy can make a mean casserole — so what? Sometimes parents are awesome and sometimes they’re not so awesome but that’s not because of their sexual orientation; it’s because parents are HUMAN. Yeesh.
