Rick Santorum In 2005: States Have The Right To Ban Birth Control Use
11:45 am, March 12th | by Amy Tennery
It’s not news that Rick Santorum has had a tough time being reminded of his past sentiments shared with the press. During a 1994 townhall meeting, Santorum said that single mothers were “breeding more criminals” and destroying the country — and Mother Jones brought that little tidbit to light. In 1995, Santorum said he was “basically pro-choice all my life, until I ran for congress.” Then, in 2011, Santorum said he’d criminally charge abortion providers, if given the chance.
And now, we have another wish-he-could-forget moment. Curiously, it also had to do with women’s reproductive rights.
During a 2005 CNN interview, which Buzzfeed picked up, Santorum said that he believed states have the right to regulate (i.e. ban) birth control usage — even among married couples:
Granted, this falls just a tad outside the current contraception mandate debate. And yet… somehow this might become a bit of a thorn in his side?
