Karen Santorum: My Husband Shouldn’t Have Outright Called Obama A “Snob”

As we learned last week, name calling of any kind can be both unwise and mean-spirited.

After her husband/Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum went back on his comment about President Barack Obama being a “snob” for wanting everyone to have the opportunity to go to college, Karen Santorum said her spouse should have labeled the president’s actions as “snobbish” rather than categorize him as a snob.

“He knows you always separate what you say from the person,” Karen told POLITICO over the weekend in her first interview of the presidential campaign with a print media publication. “He should have said what [Obama] said is ‘snobbish.’ It was a ‘snobbish comment,’ not he is ‘snobbish.’ There is a big difference. And he knows that. But everybody makes those mistakes along the journey.”

Karen, who has been married to Rick for 22 years, has become her husband’s de facto damage controller on the campaign. POLITICO reports that advisers are all of the belief that “the more Karen, the better for the campaign,” and given her modest lifestyle and approach to shopping (she lists her daughters as her fashion consultants and claims to purchase her clothing at outlet malls), we tend to agree that she’s good for his image, especially in this economy.

Though it’s sweet to hear that Karen and her family members pray for the families of her husband’s rivals because they’re all “going through a really tough time,” we doubt her good nature and diplomatic approach to the campaign will increase her husband’s popularity or odds of landing the primary nomination.

Someone’s forgotten the Biblical diktat that wives submit to their husbands.

Rick’s going to have to call in Marcus Bachmann to show Karen her place.

  • WiddleBabyDanielson

I’m surprised he let her speak.

Into every life a little rain must fall

Wow, seems like everything Republicans say these days requires an apology, a retraction, or some sense of regret. Maybe Karen’s husband should drop out after tomorrow.

I feel like Santorum is always so annoyed by everyone…like he’s better than everyone else…i never liked people like him.

  • Dianehauff

If she is his defacto damage controller she certainly is not doing a very good job!

Someone still needs to teach them what “snobbish” means. However impractical and pointless it would be for everyone to be college-educated, the idea is the opposite of “snobbish”…it’s “upwardly-mobile populist.”

What is “snobbish” about wanting the best educations possible for all Americans?  The American wealthy and the GOP, for the most part, are the biggest snobs in the world.

Okay???…..So…Do you want to call him…hushh…hush… Snob?  As much as I dislike some of the things Obama has done, like not withdrawing troops on the time table that he promised while running his 2008 campaign and signing the NDAA,  we need to stop this Satanic language.

snob, noun.  snobbish, adjective.  What’s the difference?  Anyway you pronounce or parse it – President Obama is not snobby by wanting the best education for all children in this country.

There is NO way Rick Santorum could have gotten to his station in life without a solid government provided education.  I’m sure his parents paid for part of his tuition to Penn but – Penn would not have been there without government support!

There is NO way any of us will ever achieve anything other than bare subsistence without education.  Whether that is public education or home/street achieved smarts remains to be seen.  Tech schools aren’t built on dreams and prayers.  They’re part of our tax payer support.

Surely, anyone with half a brain can see that education is the main, maybe only, way this country will succeed?!

  • Joan Kelly

A President can only do things IF he’s supported by his Congress and his country, Darlin’.  The very first thing President Obama did after being elected was sign the direction to close Guantanamo.  Didn’t happen because — there was no one in this country that wanted to house the inmates.  So, they’re still there and it sucks!  Big time!

I agree with you – the Satanic language needs to stop immediately!

Never you mind Mrs. Santorum.  Your husband has more degrees than the President.  His comment really demonstrated the inability to think and speak rationally.  Not a good trait for someone who wants to be the leader for the free world.

Your husband is a dipshit madame. sorry…. not much you can do about that.

I wish that Karen had suggested that her husband actually read or hear the words that the president actually spoke, and not listen to the voices in his own head.

President Obama included trade schools, two-year programs, etc. that provide students with practical skills focused on a specific career.

How is that bad, unless your economic plan includes a lot of people pumping gas, asking if you want fries with that, cleaning toilets between classes, and staying home to have lots of babies?

BTW — my dad dropped out of school in 8th grade because he was a poor farmboy who got sick and couldn’t catch up on his lessons. He served 30 years in the military before retiring to become the head custodian at a high school. My mom graduated from a small Missouri high school and hasn’t been back for a class since. She married and had three kids. I was the first person in the family to go to college, let along earn multiple degrees and a place on the Dean’s List. I have no children and I am not married. I have been a self-employed freelance writer for 20 years, ever since surviving a near fatal car wreck while working as a clerical temp.

I suspect Santorum would consider me to be a failure.

Karen, tell him to stop talking, period and you can finally stop apologizing for that idiot.

Too little, too late. Ricky has already damaged himself and looks like a fool.
Put a fork in your campaign, Santorum. After Super Tuesday, it’s done.

Sadly the RIght does know an educated populace is the only way to go – that’s why they are so against education, unless it’s their “form” of education, administered by them, via homeschooling & private Xtian schools so they can “educate” their way.

An educated populace is the last thing they want – the mission is to continue to “dumb down” our kids, hoping they’ll join the GOPTP base of the uneducated, the unintelligent, the non-critical thinkers and their blind followers.  It’s the only way they can keep those darn 99% in their “place” and working for nothing, never questioning.

It’s amusing that the top two Republican contenders wives’ feel the necessity to “explain”  about their husbands.  That more than reveals how inadequate & pathetic Santorum & Romney are.  I can see either wife jumping into negotiations with foreign governments or when they’re making a State of the Union speech, with a “Wait – he meant to say…”  Or “He really didn’t mean that, what he should have said was….”    Palin had a “shadow governor” husband, looks like Romney & Santorum have their “shadows” lined up as well.   Pretty pathetic GOP!

Romney’s wife didn’t get the message either – Orrrrr, she’s been given her marching orders from the SLC Hierarchy to keep Willard in line.  Orrrrr, she wants to be First Lady so badly, she feels it slipping away & can’t stand it.  “The Palin syndrome” maybe?  “I can jump in and WIN it for Mitt.”  LOL!

  • Anonymous

Karen & Ann:  Guess you didn’t get the message – women are to be seen, not heard.  You “got some Splainin’ to do.”  Keep up the good work ladies, you’re good for the cause.

    Obama – 2012 – Democrats – centuries.

  • Frilo

Am sick of republican christianity. Am sick of the phoney “I am praying for you” garbage.Tired of the self-righteous religious pharisees. Other than Ron Paul, the rest are fakes and totally incompetent.

  • Joan Kelly

Absolutely!  The GOP wants all of us to be stupid.  Sad is right.

Snobbish? Oh that’s much better. Wow, she’s every bit as ignorant as he is. So what the hell is rolling around inside the giant foreheads of that family? It clearly does not appear to be brains.
