DeNiro: “Do You Really Think Our Country Is Ready For A White First Lady?”

Ever heard about an extremely uncomfortable moment and been thankful that you didn’t have to experience it yourself? That’s how I feel about “Meet the Parents” actor Robert DeNiro’s recent New York fundraiser in which the no-nonsense celebrity said the United States just isn’t ready for another white first lady.

“Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?” the New York City native said from the backroom of his TriBeca restaurant, Locanda Verde.

According to POLITICO, someone yelled “No!” from the crowd, to which DeNiro responded, “Too soon, right?”

I am at a loss for words here. I get that he’s poking fun at the absurd questions from the last election cycle over whether the U.S. was “ready” for a black president. But, what exactly does this joke mean? Any guesses?

I’m sitting here imaging what the liberal response would be if a Romney or Santorum fund-raiser had said, “Do You Really Think Our Country Is Ready For Another Black First Lady?”

Personally, I don’t care what color my First Lady is.  I just ask that she’s always been proud of this great country and not only after it has elected her husband.

I’m upset with Laura! Out of all the Robert DeNiro movies, you choose Meet the Parents?!

True. It was a great movie. At least you didn’t say:

That’s how I feel about “Showtime” actor Robert DeNiro’s recent New York fundraiser in which the no-nonsense celebrity said the United States just isn’t ready for another white first lady.

BTW, I don’t get the joke. Maybe it’s an inside joke. Clooney is still dying of laughter. O.o lol

That Bobby’s little brain is completely rotted out of his head? Seriously, when did being good at pretending to be someone else qualify one to comment intelligently on politics, or anything really, other than pretending to be other people?

He was satirizing the refrain from last election regarding that was along the lines of “Is USA ready for a black prez/first lady?” In doing so he also implied that the named women were not suitable to be FL. But that implication had nothing to do with their race; they are white; USA has had many white FLs. THAT’S WHY IT’S FUNNY!

To review: he was making fun of two things: the refrain from last round, and those candidate’s wives. He was not being a racist. It’s not an overly complicated joke.
