Roman Abramovich Buys London’s Priciest Home From…You’ll Never Guess Who!
6:23 pm, September 7th | by Hillary Reinsberg
We noticed rumors last week that Roman Abramovich was buying a $147 million home in London. 1. The rumors are true! And 2. The story is a lot wackier than we had realized. Turns out he picked up the home from a hedge fund billionaire who left his wife for a male fashion designer. Sound familiar? Yep, it’s this guy.
Abramovich is buying the house from Pierre Lagrange, whose wife may be getting the world’s biggest divorce settlement ever. The two split up after he told her he was gay. As we reported yesterday:
“Hedge Funder Pierre Lagrange is worth around $483 million — but that’s about to change now that he and his wife, Catherine are splitting up. And how much is she entitled to? According to some accounts, she could get as much as half his total net worth. Yikes.
The (apparently acrimonious) split came after Lagrange told his wife he was gay last year, according to The Independent. This revelation likely was met with a considerable amount of outrage from the former Mrs. Lagrange, a top Conservative party donor.”
And that hefty settlement, friends, would probably explain why he’s selling a $147 million mansion. Have fun, Roman!
