Giffords Aide Will Likely Fill Her Congressional Seat
1:35 pm, February 9th | by Hillary Reinsberg
We were all sad to see Gabrielle Giffords step down from Congress a few weeks ago, but there’s some good news: her former aide may get to take her spot. At least for a little while.
Ron Barber, a 66-year-old top aide to Giffords since 2006, will be running for Giffords’ seat in a special election, according to the AP. Barber, like Giffords was injured in the shooting that took place 13 months ago, suffering a shot to the head and leg. Barber will run in the Spring special election, but he hasn’t said if he’ll run again in the larger general election in the Fall.
Another Arizona Democratic Representative has said he’s also interested in the seat, but won’t run against Barber in the Spring special election.
