‘Ruby Sparks’: In Which Paul Dano’s Fictional Dream Girl Comes To Life

Life would be so much easier if we could create the type of person we’d like to date and he/she would magically appear. That happens to writer Calvin (portrayed by “Little Miss Sunshine” actor Paul Dano) in “Ruby Sparks,” a new movie about the struggling novelist’s romance with a fictional female character who has magically come to life.

The film, which hits theaters tomorrow, follows the one-time author as he comes to terms with the fact that a character he has written about, Ruby Sparks, becomes a real person. Any time he writes about her, she winds up having those same experiences in real life. Very “Stranger Than Fiction.”

“You can make her do anything. For men everywhere, tell me you’re not going to let that go to waste,” says Calvin’s brother. Uh…

I’m sure she won’t be that way the whole flick, because where’s the fun in that?

Saw the obscure movie poster in the theater and knew exactly what it was. Yet another “pretty girl who is in love with me and I don’t have to do any work” story.

NYT says the movie encapsulates every guy’s fantasy. I’m sure Calvin will realize that’s not what he really wants at some point in the movie. Looking forward to seeing it.
