Yikes: Same-Sex Marriage Bans Are Costing Us Billions [Infographic]

There are a lot of reasons you could list to show why same-sex marriage bans are, to put it mildly, depressing and terrible. But if you’re more of the hard-line, dollars-and-cents mentality, consider this: Same-sex marriage bans are costing the U.S. billions of dollars in lost revenue.

A new report from Take Part shows that same-sex marriage bans lead to an estimated $16.8 billion in lost revenue for the wedding industry. $16.8 billion. That’s outrageous.

And consider this: Same-sex marriage bans cost individuals thousands of dollars as well. As the infographic below shows, one same-sex couple lost nearly half a million dollars worth of benefits they would have gotten if they were legally married. Others, meanwhile, shell out big bucks to establish powers of attorney and other legal privileges they would have enjoyed as a married couple.

This is not correct because nothing is created. Nothing is produced, so nothing is lost. You people who believe this should go off to an island and see if you can build and economy based on marriage fees.

I’m wondering why there isn’t such a move to demonstrate the revenue lost from no longer having sock-hops. No, that isn’t an agenda the counter-culturalists want to push so they don’t come up with such clever devices.
