Men Kicked Out Of Santorum Rally After Interrupting Speech, Kissing

If anything could inspire a romantic moment, it’s a Rick Santorum rally…Not.

When news outlets reported this weekend that two men were booted from an Illinois Santorum event for sharing a kiss, I wondered how anything involving the GOP candidate could bring lovebirds together. But the full story, as covered by Niles-Morton Grove Patch, explains that the smooching guys, who refused to reveal whether they were gay or just trying to get a rise out of the crowd, first drew attention to themselves by shouting in the middle of Santorum’s speech, provoking boos all around the Christian Liberty Academy gym. The jeering erupted before the men embraced each other, but they were thrown out of the gathering moments later as event goers chanted, “USA! USA!” in unison.

But the fellows who kissed may not have done it to show their affection for each other, but to make a statement about gay rights. They told Patch that their sexuality was irrelevant:

When asked whether the kiss was a public display of affection or merely a symbolic act, Timothy Tross of Lombard and Ben Clifford of Algonquin, declined to comment.

“I don’t think the message should be about what my sexuality is,” Tross said. “It’s the message that he’s saying about sexuality that matters.”

I’m guessing they were just trying to protest Santorum’s widely known belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and in that case, their sexuality is of no concern to us, but the full story hasn’t really been revealed in major headlines, and making a scene to enrage rally attendees is a slap in the face to gay men who actually want to engage in PDA because they care for each other.
