The 4 Creepiest Political Ads Of The Last Month
11:00 am, March 26th | by Laura Donovan
First came the attack ads, then came the seriously creepy ads that rob us of quality sleep. This election season, candidates and political figures alike have adopted the unusual habit of releasing disturbing videos that will somehow make us want to vote for or support them. Last week, presidential contender Rick Santorum debuted “Obamaville,” one of the most horrific video ads ever made and seemed to suggest President Barack Obama is the next Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. And now former contender Herman Cain, who hasn’t been relevant for months (was he ever?), has decided to put out a terrifying ad involving a bunny getting shot by a dude with hipster glasses and a creepy little girl schooling us on the tax code.
As the year goes on, we expect the trend of scary ads to continue, and here are some of our favorites from the last month:
1. Herman Cain ad uses the killing of a rabbit to demonstrate the future of small businesses under our current tax code. PETA, where are you when we need you most?!
2. “Obamaville” by Rick Santorum: I’m still convinced that the people behind “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” helped produce this clip, which made me want to sleep with my rosary beads when it was time to go to bed last night:
3. Mitt Romney ad features a business man falling further and further into the depths of the ocean to show that the U.S. is drowning in debt. It’s not too creepy, but given the upcoming theater re-release of “Titanic” and that whole global warming and melting icecaps thing, this concerns us a little bit:
4. Vladimir Putin’s campaign ad urges you to lose your voting virginity to him. Thank God I don’t live in Russia:
