Gross Scion Ad Features “Bikini Babes,” Terrible Suspension And Nausea [VIDEO]

Donuts, good. Milk, okay! Scion: The Worst.

A new (actually, really real) Scion car commercial might have you asking yourself whether it’s more insulting to women… or Scion.

The concept is Lloyd-and-Harry simple: A bunch of bikini-clad “babes” attempt to eat donuts and drink milk while being whipped around in a tiny, cramped Scion. (Hence the name of the commercial, “Babes ‘N Donuts” — get it?)

After the women are assembled in the car, the driver proceeds to hurl them around at hurling, hurlish speeds and angles, while they all scream in terror and spill their wasted treats on themselves and the car. At one point you hear one of them gagging and scream “I don’t feel so good!” As I said, “hurling.”

Yes, it’s the image every car company wants in its ad: Its vehicle’s passengers shrieking during a decidedly bumpy, uncomfortable ride, during which one of them announces she about to vomit. And milk-soaked upholstery. Yum.

Did you notice that there were other commercials of the same vein such as “Cops and Donuts”, “Dudes and Donuts”, and “Bikers and Donuts”?  Not that it makes them good commercials by any stretch — I really don’t get the concept — but we can’t say it’s just one silly stereotype that being exploited here.

Milk on breasts reminds me of something other than a car ad

I think the worst thing is that, in each commercial, it is a woman doing the stupid driving causing everyone to spill their milk (in the biker and cop commercial she’s dressed as a man but it’s pretty obvious she’s a woman).  Even in ‘dudes’ and donuts they had to have a woman causing the mess?  Or is it that this car’s driver’s seat has so little room that only the female actress could drive it?

No, the worst “thing” is that you interpret these commercials as if they were public service announcements; searching for any fibre of sexism that your proverbial microscope can interpret as a slight against you.
