Creepy Dude A Reminder Free Hugs Aren’t Always A Good Thing

Ever been wary of those people who walk around offering “free hugs”? You could have a good sense for trouble. Missouri law officials are looking into charging “an alleged serial hugger,” also known as “Jack the Gripper,” for pretending to be acquainted with women and coercing them into hugs.
Does that sound like an extreme measure to take on a guy who just wants to spread the love? Well, it’s not. Jack the Gripper, whose name has not yet been released, has been accused of mauling at least 36 women with “unwanted hugs” and kissing one. So how has he managed to throw himself into the arms of dozens of skeptical ladies? By approaching them when they’re alone, saying he is a former neighbor, and requesting a hug because it’s his birthday, according to ABC News. Des Peres Detective Marshall Broughton told the media outlet of the Gripper’s modus operandi:
“He’d say, ‘Hi, remember me? I lived down the street in the corner house. How ya been?’ Obviously [the women] didn’t remember him, but he did it so quickly and convincingly that they felt embarrassed that they didn’t know him.”
In that situation, I’m pretty sure it’s fine to push someone away. If you live in the town of 8,400, you best sleep with an eye open. The Gripper hasn’t been arrested, as it’s unclear whether his “actions were criminal.” They sure were creepy, though.
