Institute Of Directors: Lack Of Women On Boards “A Key Failing” In The U.K.
3:41 pm, December 31st | by Amy Tennery
Simon Walker, the director general of the Institute of Directors, has outlined some goals for U.K. boards in 2012. One key goal: Get more women in the boardroom, stat.
The IOD, the key professional group for directors in the U.K., released Walker’s statement yesterday as part of the group’s New Year’s message, according to UKPA. And, according to Walker, who’s basically like the boss of all the bosses in the U.K., the lack of women in business is “a key failing” on a par with out-of-control executive pay.
From the Express:
“We need to regain our pride in our country, and celebrate the achievements of our entrepreneurs and business leaders…Executive pay at some of the largest companies has got out of line, and there are still far too few women on boards. This year the IoD is going to lead efforts to promote our young entrepreneurs and make sure our boards reflect the society they serve.”
