Kate McKinnon’s Ann Romney Impression On SNL Is My Reason For Living Right Now

No one really seems to know how to take on Ann Romney in a humorous way this fall — even her parody Twitter account has been dead since September 6th — but that changed this weekend when new cast member Kate McKinnon debuted her Ann Romney impression on SNL’s “Weekend Update.”

As it turns out, the writers realized (smartly) that the best way to take on Ann Romney is to take on her husband, allowing McKinnon’s Romney to drop her polite facade and direct her rage at Mitt’s detractors, as she has allegedly done on a number of occasions. I thought McKinnon was a strong performer when she debuted mid-season last year, and giving her a prominent figure in this year’s election to lampoon is an obvious vote of confidence. I’m psyched to see more of her! You can see the segment below. Related: is it just me, or is the physical resemblance kind of uncanny?

It was a stupid bit, and the resemblance isn’t even close.

The highlight of the episode. Not so much an impression as a characterization full of great moments of improv. The kind of brilliant, in-the-moment laugh-making that SNL should always be going for. Bravo!
