You know that pesky daily commitment you made awhile back? No, not your marriage, I mean your job. Love it or hate it, it’s a pretty necessary part of your life if you like food or shelter or life insurance for your pet rock. Who knows what you’re into, I mean it’s largely up to you (unless you’re married), but these things cost money. Bottom line is jobs are essential for most adults. And social media mismanagement has a way of screwing that up sometimes.
Depending on when you signed your contract on the dotted line, social media may or may not have been a part of everyday life, but it sure is now. In a recent study released by Jobvite, 92 percent of recruiters said they are using or plan to use social media in their hiring process. The survey polled over a thousand companies. Since they started using social media sites to hire, 50 percent reported finding more candidates and 43 percent said they now find better candidates.
The study also shows the numbers steadily climbing, the ties between job recruiting and your social media image becoming ever more tightly wound. Seeing this trend along with the constant stream of absurd, awful and downright hilarious Facebook posts, The Jane Dough decided to do a compilation of our own. We found each of the examples below, making this an unscientific grouping strictly for your entertainment and foresight. And yes, sadly we do know each of these people personally.
So what does this mean for me, you ask? It means just as social media is here to stay, so is your boss’ habit of creeping your profile. So if you want to keep your job or land another one, you should take a look at these examples of what not to do…
And then quickly remove those tweets you posted while drinking last night.
