The More You Know
Social Media Is Making You Really Socially Awkward [Infographic]

Most people don’t need Facebook to be socially inept or fail to enchant strangers at parties, and social media platforms are feeding that uneasiness and making us even more awkward when face-to-face with others, according to a new Schools.com infographic.
The survey results reveal that 24 percent of people miss out on social events because they’re too busy documenting the happenings online. You know those individuals who go to a networking happy hour and spend the majority of the time Instagraming, checking into Foursquare, Facebooking, and tweeting? They’re not getting the full experience of being out because they’re too caught up in social media to live in the moment and actually speak to the human before them. They are also really annoying and rude, but hey, I am guilty of indulging in such behavior and cannot comment on it as such. The statistics also show that 29 percent of Americans spend more time socializing on the Internet rather than in person, and 33 percent of people cite the Internet as their preferred means of meeting new folks.
You may love Instagram and flaunting your activity to the world, but just know that your social media obsession isn’t going to score you any more invites to fun events, so don’t be afraid to unplug. It’s not a life support tether or anything…
