Crazy Senate Candidate Says ‘Sodomy Is Not A Civil Right’

In the U.S., you have a right to the pursuit of happiness…and that’s about as much freedom as you’re going to get, because according to Virginia Senate candidate Robert G. Marshall, you weren’t born with the right to sodomy. Whether you engage in it or not, these are unusual and invasive words from a current delegate, who has no business bringing the act up in the first place.

First, let’s back up. An openly gay Richmond prosecutor, Tracy Thorne-Begland, attempted to move up to a judge position, but was denied. Some people felt this was the result of prejudice against Thorne-Begland. Marshall, however, had a different interpretation.

“Sodomy is not a civil right. It’s not the same as the civil rights movement,” he said. Uhhh, what?

He was responding to a CNN reporter’s question about whether sexual orientation discrimination was similar to women’s suffrage and the civil right’s movement. But even if having a gay judge is a different matter entirely, there was no need to mention sodomy. We may be dealing with homosexual relationships here, but no one asked him to mention what those relationships involve. Way to talk about another man’s personal life publicly, bro.
