Some People Are Offended By This Nativity Scene Made Of Tampons

People get really into crafting around the holidays, which is one explanation I can think of for the existence of this nativity scene constructed out of tampons. Some people, however, like Penny Star at CSN News, are not amused by this particular project. She writes of the tableau, “Somehow it’s not awful enough that someone can’t resist dragging the holiest scene for Christians into the powder room. They have to make fun about a ‘bloody good Christmas.’”

Her point is well taken, but it’s not as though this particular nativity scene is being reproduced in elementary schools across the country or featured in any of the White House’s crafting bonanzas. Plus, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think that maybe TamponCrafts.com is trying to get a rise out of people. Here are a couple of the other projects billed on the site — take a look and then tell me if you think the brain trust behind the site isn’t purposely trying to get people hot under the collar.

Will there be a menorah made of them? No.

    Awesome Idea!

Not clicking on the link (busy right now) but if there’s a whole, I’m assuming that they do all sorts of outrageous crafts (outrageous crafts would be a pretty good name…) with tampons, and it IS the holiday season. That’s what happens. They did a Christmas Star Wars special for chrissake…although, that was no less offensive.

What is offensive about tampons? I didn’t realize the natural cycle of my body was so damn offensive to Christians.

    Seconded!

No kidding. I suppose the entire human reproductive system gives some people the heebie jeebies or something? I’d love to know what they thought of the Viagra cuff links. xD

Was there seriously a Star Wars Xmas special? For me, I think that now beats the Flintstones for being the most bizarre setting for a Christmas Special.

I’d love to know their rationale for why this is supposedly offensive. I’d also like to know what their reaction would be if it were made from other things that can draw blood (in a less biological and more *violent* sense), like knives (cooking knives? utility knives?) or guns.

btw I especially got a kick out of the tampon cuff links and “toupé.” xD

It exists and it’s on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz550T3QeAo the holiday they celebrate is called “Life Day” but they have all the traditional bells and whistles of a Christmas Special…including Bob Newhart. It’s hilarious and awful.

I skimmed through it a bit and read the description. Ouch! The Wookie family’s noises *alone* were horrid. And who knew the so-called “War on Christmas” started back in the 1970s? lol…

There’s a Rifftrax of it. If you’re unfamiliar, they’re the same group that did the SciFi version of Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Anyway, it makes it a fantastic comedy.
