Suze Orman Defends Her Universally Detested Debit Card By Saying “Just Trust Me”

Last week, we explored the Suze Orman-sponsored prepaid credit card, a purple piece of plastic for which the financial guru has taken a lot of heat. She appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight yesterday evening, where, naturally, she defended the card. We’re not entirely sure we buy the defense though.

When Morgan brought up some of the criticism that’s been geared at the card, Orman’s method of fighting back was to invoke an “after this many years in the business do you really think I’d do that” defense. It’s true that it wouldn’t make sense for Orman to create a financially irresponsible product, but at the same time, the kind of blind faith she’s asking people to have is just the kind of thing she’d normally rally against.

Suze, you have been telling people to shred their credit cards for years… but yours is o.k.?

2012 is suppose to be an interesting game changer of a year. Politically, we’re watching a political party self-destruct and now we’re watching phony fund raising groups like the Komen organization implode. Between taking back their grant to an organization like Planned Parenthood that actually does a lot of fine work for poor women as opposed to Komens doing promotions with McDonald  for cancer awareness while not mentioning that eating saturated fat hamburgers is a major cause of cancer. Oh, the hypocrisy. Now we have the seriously overrated Suzie Orman encouraging people to use her credit card. Everyone knows that it’s never a good idea to encourage credit card use. I’ve not had a credit card in years and will never get another one – we learn the hard way. Debit cards, yes – credit cards and Suzie Orman, no.

Um your going to have to cite your work there about saturated fat causing cancer. We have been eating it for centuries. I think you might be talking about the wheat in the bun but not the meat.

Isn’t this a pre-paid card and not a credit card?

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

Yes, but there will still be fees associated with having the card!!

She also explained in the interview that pre-paid cards have been bad in the past… but if course, her’s is different!!

Suze Orman is no fraud, in 2010 my credit card debt was $24,000. Today is $0. Thanks to Suze I’ve learned how to budget and the difference between needs and wants. Is she always right? No. Neither is Buffett, Soros, Kramer, and all the other geniuses out there.

Still, Suze has financial advice that the average Joe can understand and she has helped millions of people.

    where can you get one?

  • Sugarspot1

Yes, where is there more information about Suze’s pre-paid credit card?  I use my debit card all the time and need to know more about Suze’s.  If hers gives credit where credit is due, I’m all for it!
